Let's not be a 'passerby' this Christmas

If you were to see a car accident happen would you stop and help the people in the car or would you drive by believing that others will help them and keep going to where you were headed?

This morning I was woken by a request by the pastor in India where we visited three years ago requesting help for the orphanage and daily needs as they were struggling and I thought of the dream I had this morning about a car accident that had happened and those that walked by. For many of us every day things have happened to the people around us that need our help in some way.

The Lord took me to James 2:5 "Listen my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have dishonoured the poor..... v14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?"

What is love - love is both word and action. So how do I love people in need, who, for whatever reason have had an accident and need help getting back on their feet? All of us struggle at different times but if I were in that position would I need someone to help me? If we are Jesus to the people around us, what does that look like? If we are His hands and His feet, Christ in us, the hope to the world, how does love in action take shape?

Every situation is different I believe, there is not a one size fits all, but this is where prayer too is the beginning steps in how we help as the spirit knows what a person needs and perhaps the need we can help with may not be the physical financial support like that in India, but something else.

Perhaps a word of encouragement. Perhaps a meal. Perhaps a voucher for a fancy restaurant that would bless them. God knows our needs even before we ask for them, but He uses you and I too supply that need. Let's be a people this Christmas that are not ones who walk on by but help those in need that we come across if we are able knowing that God supplies all of our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

The baby's been handed over

Several weeks ago the Lord shifted us out of the 'home office' into the 'market place' and in the process a spiritual shift happened - one of letting the 'baby' go, a releasing and handing over the batten, so to speak to others. In this process the nests that WE ALL have been in have been stirred up, shaken about, and pushed out, to fly in ways that perhaps we were too afraid to do previously. The amazing thing with God is that He knows the timing of all of this and where each one of us is at and what we can handle. Yes there has been a fluttering of wings in panic. Yes, we have had a few weeks of challenge as authority and structures get changed and challenged, frustrations coming to the fore, but love helps us overcome, love helps us to forgive, love helps us to see the good and not the dirt, love helps us remember our own failings and yet forgiveness and grace that the Lord has for me, that I can give to others, remembering it's the glory of G...

Will you play the piano - will you spit and touch a man's toungue?

We had our worship group the other night and to begin with I saw someone playing the playing so I asked if anyone could and would play the piano because that is what I saw happening in the spirit. I may have been wrong in the what I saw but I stepped out in faith but alas no one stepped forward to play the piano so Jim played it and I believe in this the Lord was teaching us some valuable lessons. Jim cannot play the piano at all but he was willing to be used. This morning I was reading in Mark 7:32-35 "There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged him to place his hand on the man... Jesus put his fingers into the man's ears. Then he spit and touched the man's tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him "Ephphatha!" (which means, "Be opened!). How do we honour?

This morning I am pondering how we truly show honour to people? I was thinking about how to honour some people and the Lord said to me “Sarah honour them the way you want to receive honour.” I found that really interesting as it made me question as to what I see as honour toward me in my own life. While mowing the lawns I came to see that honour is actually shown more deeply from people when it is given from the heart, sown by that particular persons love language perhaps and so often we don’t receive the honour that people are giving us if we are expecting it a certain way. For instance the other day a beautiful lady in the Lord gave me a couple of very small roses to wear on my clothes. It was so beautiful and so touched my heart and spoke volumes to me and the honour and love she was showing me because she had thought of me. Often we miss the love and honour someone is trying to show us because we see it from how we expect to receive ...

Nailed to the cross ...by other peoples judgements

We nailed Jesus to the cross with our judgements, our misunderstandings, our misinterpretations and yet today we continue to do the same thing to those around us. We nail people to a cross, we crucify people with our judgements towards them, our thoughts or attitudes, our misunderstandings or interpretation of things. We hold people in a place that they cannot get out of - but for Jesus! I was sitting in church the other day and while the pastor was preaching this thought came to me and I looked at my own life and the judgements that people have made toward me which have held me in that place. It's a bit like a smoker feeling the judgements of how people feel about them smoking and because of that judgement it moves them to rebel even more and continue doing that as they fight for the right to be who they are. I really felt this was deep revelation that the Lord was showing me. Why am I the way I am, what are the judgements that have been made...

Wise men come bearing gifts for Jesus.

Thought this morning - "the three wise men came bearing gifts for Jesus", expensive gifts. Thought .... they were wise men What is it to be wise.... The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom according to Proverbs. The expensive gifts they brought were because they recognised a King and you never enter a Kings presence without an offering and yet today we become so 'familiar' with our King that we don't even give Him the honour He is due and we can easily take for g ranted what He has given us. The reason why we have offerings in church???? perhaps a continual reminder for us who our Lord and Saviour is and the honour He is due?? Prov 3:9 "Honour the Lord with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase, So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine." If you enter a Kings presence with the best you have to give, will not that King give you favour and honour because you have given H...

Things to ponder from the book of Luke

Some powerful stuff out of the book of Luke this morning that spoke to me 17:10 " So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty'" This really spoke to me how we expect and want the praise from man for what we do and yet we have only done what we were asked to do when we freely gave ourselves as bondslaves/servants to christ so why should we expect praise from man or from God? The other thing - actually there was heaps this morning out of Luke so take a look, but 18:8 "However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" The one question about will Jesus find people of faith who believe in what they have not yet seen? It is only faith that pleases God and so to be a people of faith.... A challenge.
