Let's not be a 'passerby' this Christmas

If you were to see a car accident happen would you stop and help the people in the car or would you drive by believing that others will help them and keep going to where you were headed?

This morning I was woken by a request by the pastor in India where we visited three years ago requesting help for the orphanage and daily needs as they were struggling and I thought of the dream I had this morning about a car accident that had happened and those that walked by. For many of us every day things have happened to the people around us that need our help in some way.

The Lord took me to James 2:5 "Listen my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have dishonoured the poor..... v14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?"

What is love - love is both word and action. So how do I love people in need, who, for whatever reason have had an accident and need help getting back on their feet? All of us struggle at different times but if I were in that position would I need someone to help me? If we are Jesus to the people around us, what does that look like? If we are His hands and His feet, Christ in us, the hope to the world, how does love in action take shape?

Every situation is different I believe, there is not a one size fits all, but this is where prayer too is the beginning steps in how we help as the spirit knows what a person needs and perhaps the need we can help with may not be the physical financial support like that in India, but something else.

Perhaps a word of encouragement. Perhaps a meal. Perhaps a voucher for a fancy restaurant that would bless them. God knows our needs even before we ask for them, but He uses you and I too supply that need. Let's be a people this Christmas that are not ones who walk on by but help those in need that we come across if we are able knowing that God supplies all of our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Recently we have been pondering how to deal with situations in our family that don't line up with the word. What action do we need to take? Are we being too harsh? Do we accept the behaviour or be considered by those around us as "too radical" or "too black and white"? "Where is grace in all of this? How do we love the sinner but hate the sin? What about forgiveness? What is the role of discipline? What makes that sin any worse than lying? What is true love? And there are a lot more questions going through the mind in how to work through this and know God's will and desire for the situation and the person. And firstly to say we have not come to any conclusions and are growing and learning day by day in this but I want to throw it out there. "I am ruined for the ordinary"

“I am ruined for the ordinary” A statement that can possibly be to some, come from a place of judgement, or it can be from a place of there is more in the Kingdom of God that I am yet to experience or understand, revelation that I have tasted of something that actually shows me that I have not tasted of anything yet. A place where there is such a contentment and joy in what I have seen and longed to see and yet a revelation that there is way more "beyond what I think, ask and imagine" (Eph 3:20) and one that spurs me on to seek and discover all the fullness that could be ours in the Kingdom of God. Kiwi Culture verses Kingdom Culture

The above is the title of a book that I have on my heart. Whether or not it ever makes it there we will see but in the process I want to put some thoughts down and see what it opens up. I grew up with phrases like "God helps those who help themselves" or "Too spiritually minded to be any earthly good". There are many many more that I am sure you know of - I would love to hear them so please blog me about them or Facebook me so I can add them. But phrases like that that we grew up with that actually have become a part of world view and things we base our lives on. Things of our culture that are so much a part of culture that we think is actually a part of the bible or at the very least is no big deal in God's eyes; like sarcasm. I have had to question some of these phrases - "where does it say in the bible God helps those who help themselves?" Our words create our worlds

Last week I had a vision and I saw fire coming up from the ground and water coming from the sky, it was chaos and people were running for their lives as disaster struck. I was asking the Lord about it as it felt like judgement coming and I was trying to reconcile judgement with my God that I know who loved the world so much that he sent his only son to die for us not to condemn the world but to save the world, and he said to me - Sarah "your words create your world." Everything God created was good and in Genesis we see God gave Adam and Eve dominion over the earth. And through Jesus, God has given us authority and dominion over the earth, the same authority he gave Jesus now lives in us to those who believe. 23 May 2012 Dear friends and partners, Psalm 34:1-3 I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the Lord; Let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; Let us exalt His name together . This was in my journal this morning and was so appropriate for where things are at.! God’s timing is just amazing. In the last update Jim’s work was coming to an end but the Lord had spoken about Step Up & Step In – the mini conference we had earlier this month, which because of the Lords timing in less work for Jim enabled him to concentrate on preparation for the conference. The conference was such a blessing and everything the Lord had been teaching us over the years was released in the peace, rest and freedom then reigned over it. Is the reality of your heart different to what people see?

I had this dream and in this dream I went to stay with some people but they had no room in the house for me so I stayed in my caravan. But as I went into their house, the kitchen was a disaster, it was full of rotting food so much so that there were maggots growing and moving, there was stuff everywhere. The people in the house were off helping a handicapped person which was good, but the state of their kitchen was a disaster. So even though I didn’t know where to begin in cleaning up I started to clean up as they needed a hand and as I started to clean up the people in the house came and helped and switched on the waste disposal unit and the kitchen began to take shape again. I believe this is a word for some of you. Although you are helping others and doing good things, in the process, your own house, your own heart, is in a mess and you need others to come and help you get started.
